Just tamed Loque’nahak. Finally. April 10, 2009

I am not sure if it is every hunter’s dream, but it was certainly a goal of mine since the release of the expansion. Only once have I come close to taming this very Rare elite Spirit Beast that spawns in Sholozar Basin every 6 to 8 hours.

After spending hundreds of gold on respecs (BM <> Survival), I had all but given up. For some reason today, as I worked from home, I felt compelled to get my hunter to SB and check out a few common locations (see the link above for info about these). The first one I check (72, 70) was the right one.

Just tamed Loque'nahak. Finally.

Isn't it a thing of (beasty) beauty?

Tip: if you try to tame it, do stand on top of your trap and not behind it. Loque’nahak will jump at you and may not trigger the trap if you dropped it too far.

Very happy hunter here ;-)

Brutallus is down. Finally!!!! September 22, 2008

Wow, just wow. It took us the best part of a couple of months of effort – with interruptions due to the vacation season and an usual issue of attendance of our core raiders – in order to finally kill Brutallus. The mechanics of the encounter itself are not that difficult, but it is unbelievably hard to execute perfectly. With just 6 minutes to go through Brut’s 10M health points, there is no margin for error. We had brought him down to 2% a few times, then 1%, always missing 10 seconds of full raid dps to finish him. Finally, at the very last attempt of last night’s raid, we did it. He died a few seconds after the enrage timer kicked in. Onto Felmyst now…

In case you want to congratulate us, here is the link to the post in our forums  ;-) .

Great surprise last night as I was logging out after we raided BT: an invitation to beta of Wrath of the Lich King. It took the whole night to download the 1.8GB file, and then more time this morning to install the whole lot. In the meantime, I copied Erbodie (and my paly Erbkaya) so that I can login and start exploring Northrend.

Here are the few of pics:

Will report more as I find time to play a bit. And by play, I mean login, play a bit, and see the client crash or get kicked out by the server – which crashes a lot as well. Very early beta indeed.

First thing I noticed is that respec’s only cost 1 copper. I hope that this price makes it into the final version.

Down with Lady Vashj December 4, 2007

My guild killed her a few weeks ago but I finally got the opportunity to get to Lady Vashj and kill her. It took us something like 9 tries to put her down, and there were quite a few casualties at the end of Phase 3 when we got her. I could loot the first part of the attunment quest to Mount Hyjal, but I still have to kill Kael’Thas in Tempest Keep. Hopefully in the days to come. I took my own pic of the kill. Not as nice as this one memorizing the first kill by the guild, but still. Vashj down for the count!Lady Vashj down for the count

It is up and running since yesterday. Running – sort of – since Blizzard is already making a hot fix of it and took the realms down this morning for 2 hours. What is good? Lots of things! Here are the official patch notes, and the undocumented changes (yet). What do I like in Patch 2.3:

  • The end of the hunter dead zone is a big deal. You can now be in close range of a mob and still pawn it with your ranged weapon. Very useful for raid mobs that charge the player who is the farthest from it.
  • Zul’Aman is really good fun. We did two guild groups last night, not really thinking about class balance and needs, and it was a bit of a wipe fest as we learnt the trash and boss fights. We managed to down Bear and Eagle bosses. I don’t think that we’ll be ready for the timed quest – which requires to kill a boss and its trash in less than 20 minutes – before some time. It took us about 3 hours (and close to 50Gs in repair bills) to get through these two bosses. And remember that our guild has cleared SSC and is working on Kael’Theras in TK.
  • The engineering flying mount is a blast. I regret the fact that it is polluting Outland big time, but it is really cool.
  • There is a bunch of new daily quests, which is welcome because of the monotony of the ones we got used to.
  • Bonus: the Epic Engineering Flying Mount – with me riding it :-) . Update: Two disappointments I can report – we hunters can no longer double trap, and the awesome looking Amani bear is no longer tameable. Sooo sad.Epic Engineering Flying Mount

Some good news from the 2.3 PTR October 23, 2007

Just reviewing the changes in the latest patch… of the 2.3 patch on MMO Champion. Two good things for a hunter and newbie engineer (got to Lvl 364 in 24 hours – yay me) – like yours truly:

    • Aimed Shot (Marksmanship) now reduces healing done to that target by 50% for 10 seconds.
I can see the end of the un-killability (word ?) of resto shammies and healadins in bgs. With the quasi removal of our dead zone and the dispelling on a magic effect with arcane shots, I might actually consider doing a bit of arena.
    • Engineers have been crafting their own uber-bullets for some time. There is now a Adamantite Arrow Maker (Mats: Adamantite Arrow Maker) that allows you to create arrows with the similar damage profile: Adamantite Stinger.

I am copying Erbodie to the PTR again, so that I can test the engineering goodies, including the Engineering Flying Mount.

Update: The new name on the PVE PTR is Engbodie. Say hi if you see me online.

    Defeating the Headless Horseman… October 23, 2007

Will allow you to loot some brooms and other Halloween related items. Hence I ended up with a pumpkin head thrown away at me by a guildie of the group that killed HH (as we call him) 4 times in a row. In order to reach him, you need to go to the Graveyard of the Scarlet Monestary.

Not a difficult fight at all if you have enough DPS, and burn down the head as soon as it pops.

More about about Hallow’s End, and the Horseman fight.
